About Theo

Theo is a Reader in Smart Cities with a background in systems engineering, cybersecurity and software development and teaches across our undergraduate programmes of Engineering Design and Civil Engineering and the MSc Computer Science.
In the past Theo has worked in industry as a programmer (Ulysses Systems), consultant and auditor (Ernst & Young) and after becoming an academic provided, on occasion, expert witness advice, continuing professional development courses etc. His work has been focused on a diverse range of sectors including transportation, utilities, healthcare and government. Theo has worked on aspects of marine safety and port security, public transport resilience, protection of UAVs, telecom revenue and system assurance, as well as contributed to investigations of computer-assisted crime.
He graduated with a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Crete in Greece before moving to Athens to complete his postgraduate studies, first at master’s (MSc Information Systems) and then at doctoral level (PhD Informatics). His PhD was sponsored by Ernst & Young, one of the “Big Four” global assurance and advisory firms. Theo is also a Felow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Chartered Professional Member of the Chartered Institute for IT (MBCS CITP).
In his spare time he enjoys spending quality time with his daughter Chrissa-Sophia, his little boy Gabriel and his wife Catherine. He is an amateur runner and also likes watching sport, mainly rugby but also cricket, american football and MMA.
